About Madeline Rodger

Emerging Author

Madeline is from Northern New Jersey and educated in the art of Creative Nonfiction writing. As an advocate for mental health, her firsthand experiences with mental illness crisis and psychosis recovery are foundational in her work. Compelling nonfiction essays, memoirs, and short stories, are the cornerstones of her writing.

Married to her high school crush for 26 years, Madeline's husband is a disabled Marine Corps veteran, mechanic, and trouble-shooting jack-of-all-trades. They have two teenagers and a Doberman Pinscher. You can usually find Madeline in the woods when the weather is on her side.

Let's Talk About Mental Health

After being arrested and involuntarily hospitalized in 2024 during active psychosis, Madeline learned she had been in intermittent, paranoid delusional psychosis for 21 years.

In 2003, Madeline acquired a Traumatic Brain Injury as a passenger in a fatal car accident with her best friend, who did not survive, passing away while Madeline was in a coma.

Eager to destigmatize mental illness, Madeline's goals are to help people get comfortable talking about mental health issues. Madeline founded Finding Ivy as a platform for people to find support navigating a life-less-ordinary.  It's a place to share your stories, relate to someone else's, and to find resources and education on various mental health and lifestyle topics. The Shop is opening soon, a percentage of every sale to be donated to Mental Illness charities like NAMI.org- National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Madeline Rodger is a writer, not a mental health professional.

Memoir Coming Soon

Madeline's experiences with devastating loss, life-changing cognitive disability, mental illness, Episodic Psychosis, ADHD, addiction, survivor’s guilt, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the sudden return of traumatic childhood memories, brings a fresh perspective on mental health and what trauma can do to the mind and body. Madeline is currently developing a two-volume memoir: Part One documents her dangerous and chaotic psychosis experience and path to recovery following her hospitalization. Part Two revisits trauma and joy, dysfunction and healing. From her abusive childhood to her traumatic brain injury, marrying a Marine and becoming a mom. Life pre-psychosis, full of flowers and dirt.
